While Waiting for Barack Obama’s Outreach to Black America, Have We Missed the Same from Michelle Obama?

With all of the angst surrounding President Barack Obama and his lack of outreach to the whole of black America, quietly, it is First Lady Michelle Obama that has fashioned herself as the advocate, spokesperson, and leader for whom black America has been waiting.

To be clear, expecting a monarchy to advocate and leverage black progress is flawed and dangerous thinking. But, if this is the philosophy filtered down from tribal, spiritual, and political cultures of black Americans throughout the ages, can we do better than the First Lady? Her perceived candor and her ‘realness,’ makes black folks excited and down for whatever cause which graces her platform.
